Join master teacher, Richard Gilewitz, for a weekend experience for both ukulele and guitar. This unique workshop offers players and/or singers the techniques for developing and expanding a life-long craft in a most satisfying direction. It’s an opportunity to witness and join in on the fun and challenges presented by learning new techniques and how the Gilewitz method works for both guitar and ukulele. The workshop is designed for beginner/intermediate instrumentalists and singer/songwriters.

As a team member of several major instrument and sound manufacturers, Richard adds additional elements to the workshops, including valuable tips about selecting guitars and strings to developing a plan for a good sound system -- all part of helping players raise their skill levels.

Course Outline During this 2-day workshop, you’ll learn about fingerpicking patterns and strumming, rhythm, why some notes work while others are a train wreck, and how to develop good habits that will protect your inner muse from the dole drum of sameness and predictability.
The weekend will comprise of 8 one-hour sessions plus group and individual exercises with special attention to every participant.
Session 1: Rhythm and Food Ain’t got rhythm? Have a hankering for some eggs and bacon? The Rhythm and Food session is a fun-filled exercise that matches a food to its twin rhythm for an easy method to learning various rhythms. You’ll immerse in pop tarts (yes, in some places it is considered a food) and scrambled eggs before picking up speed with watermelons and pineapples.
Session 2: Effective Chord Transfers No longer will your fingers trip over each other after you learn how to make effective chord transfers using anchor and guide fingers.
Session 3: The Fingerpicking Engine Gather the ingredients for the picking fingers with very simple patterns that can be applied to literally any genre of music. Session 4: The Art of Performance Performance at a very basic level to bring a tune to life and understand how to get your human insecurities obliterated out of the gate.
Session 5: Music Theory The basics of music theory in a refined and minimal approach will supply you with precisely only what is needed to write hundreds of tunes.Introduction to the Gilewitz take on theory will open up the doors to composition, how to break the rules now that you know them, and why theory is not scary; plus how to apply theory to most stringed instruments.
Session 6: The Capo Orchestra Learn to properly use a capo, its advantages, and different reasons for its placement. This class will be about the creation of a simple group tune while using the capo in various positions simultaneously to produce a musical invention in a very short period of time.
Session 7: How to use a Metronome No longer the dreaded “metrogroan”, this handy tool will become your next best friend.
Session 8: Pulling the Knowledge Together This final session will be devoted to creating a tune with the accumulation of knowledge from the previous classes.
